Good number of sessions completed to date vast improvements on speed and agility seen in players over such a short space of time. A number of players were invited to train with the seniors this week and last week which is showing the progression from underage to mens rugby is being achieved. This week there will not be any training as the pitches have taken a bit of a hammering with the bad weather players will be advised to get a gym session in friday to account for the lost session. The gym will be free untill 6 30 then Richy Forbes has got group classes feel free to join the classes at 5 euro a session or if not get in before 630. Please like the facebook page Malahide academy for more frequent updates and training tips.

Academy training is scheduled at 6 in the gym with Richy Forbes this friday then on the field at 6:40pm with Colin for skills and fitness. The addition of a number of new academy players means the player/ coaching ratio is much more difficult to manage.  As a result of this issue there will be cuts made to the panel that is selected. Commitment to training/attitude/improvement/fitness/puntuality are key in progression to this years academy.

looking forward to friday

My name is Colin Corkery, I am 28 years old and a member of the Malahide rfc senior 1st xv. I have recently moved from Cork and played AIL rugby for the last 5 years with Sundays Well rfc. I played rugby at the highest club levels in New Zealand with Palmerston North high school old boys, Manawatu in 2007. I was a member of the senior 1st xv in Presentation Brothers College Cork which has been a feeder school for the munster and Irish International team for decades. I played under 20 rugby for Cork Constitution where i won a munster league championship and under 20 cup medal in the same year. At the age of 22 i was a member of the Munster colleges team and a triallist for the Irish Colleges team. I played at out half both years for the Munster Colleges and won 1 interprovincial tital in 2005 and a runner up medal in 2006. I have been coached at the highest levels all throughout my rugby career and learned a great deal of coaching skills as a result. I first started coaching at the age of 20 with a local club called Carrigaline at U14 and U16 level and last year i was an assistant coach for Presentation Brothers College Cork at U14 and U16 level. I am currently coaching the Malahide U21 side and I am delighted to be given the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and skills to the up and coming academy members. Developing a players individual skills and performance will be a key interest in the academy format this season. There are many players in the club at the moment that will greatly benefit from my coaching and my knowledge of rugby. I am looking forward to picking the players who will be responsible for the development of such a great club and hopefully with the right guidence go on to play at provincial and international levels. I wish every player that wishes to make the academy set up all the best in their efforts and look forward to working with those who have achieved a position on the academy.
