IRFU Safeguarding Policy 2025
MRFC, in line with the IRFU, is committed to promoting the welfare of all Age-Grade Players by providing a safe, respectful, and enjoyable rugby environment.
The IRFU Safeguarding Policy helps clubs implement best practices to support the protection and wellbeing of young players—our sport’s most valuable asset.

Code of Conduct
Age-Grade Players
- Play for enjoyment and be part of the rugby family.
- Respect the Game and play within the Laws.
- Accept the referee’s decision respectfully.
- Play with control—never lose your temper.
- Do your best for your team, your club, and yourself.
- Applaud good play, even from your opponents.
- Never bully or take advantage of another player.
- Cooperate with coaches, teammates, and club members.
- Focus on fun, skill improvement, and feeling good.
- Thank your opponents and referee after every match.
- Tackle hard but fair—never intend to injure.
- Win with humility—lose with dignity.
- Attend training regularly and respect your team.
- You represent your team, your club, your family, and the Game.
Parents
- Remember, Age-Grade Players play for their enjoyment.
- Encourage them to follow the Laws of the Game.
- Value effort over victory—teach resilience.
- Promote skill development and sportsmanship.
- Applaud good play on both sides.
- Never ridicule or shout at a young player.
- Don’t pressure your child to win at all costs.
- Don’t force a child to play—encourage gently.
- Help eliminate verbal and physical abuse from the game.
- Avoid using foul language or harassing match officials.
Spectators
- Remember, Age-Grade Players are not professional athletes.
- Be respectful, positive, and supportive.
- Applaud good play by both teams.
- Respect opponents—there’s no game without them.
- Reject violence in all forms.
- Verbal abuse of players or officials is unacceptable.
- Promote playing within the Laws of the Game.
- Be proud of your club and the Game of Rugby.
